How to update the NVIDIA Graphics Card Driver

Newer products and recent software updates may require an update to the dedicated NVIDIA Graphics card installed within the system.  This article outlines the general process for performing the driver update.

(Because NVIDIA no longer holds on to drivers older than a certain date, older editions of TriCaster software, such as Standard Edition, Advanced Edition 2, Advanced Edition 3 or anything older, no longer have viable drivers to install. Users of those systems will need to forego this process; Advanced Edition 3 users may need to contact Customer Support if the TriCaster requires them to update their NVIDIA drivers.)

Steps:

1) First you will need to know what model graphics card is installed in your system by going into Device Manager.  Within Windows, Click the Start Icon and type "Device Manager" into the search field then click on Device Manager from the search results.

2) In Device Manager, expand the Display adapters section to identify the NVIDIA graphics card model. You should see graphics card listed. (Example: NVIDIA GeForce GT740)

3) Now that we have the graphics card model information, launch a web browser and go to the Advanced Driver search page here: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx

Select the appropriate options from each of the drop-down menus for the graphics card model as seen in Device Manager then click Search. (NOTE: Some legacy products run Windows Vista, others Windows 7 64 bit, Windows 10 64 bit, etc so be sure to check your system to verify.  You will want to select the Recommended/Certified)

Upon seeing the list populate, be sure to select the GAME READY DRIVERS - DO NOT SELECT DCH. mceclip2.png

Finally, be sure to select the NVIDIA driver that was released prior to your current software build, as this is the driver our engineers would have been testing with during development. NVIDIA drivers that are newer than the TriCaster software build may yield abnormal interactions in the interface.

You can determine the date of your TriCaster build by treating the last six digits as a Year/Month/Day date format. For example, build 7-8-220131 was released on 22/01/31, or January 31st, 2022.

4) The NVIDIA website should now display a list of the latest driver for the graphics card. Click on the most recent driver update to start.

5) If you chose the Save option, double-click the downloaded file to run the installation of the driver.

6) During the installation, select NVIDIA Graphics Driver and Agree to the licensing agreement.

7) At the next prompt, select Custom (Advanced) then click Next

8) By default, the graphics card driver is selected. Uncheck the excess NVIDIA software. You may need to scroll down, within the NVIDIA window, to uncheck the "PhysX System Software". Do not install the additional NVIDIA software options including GeForce Experience, as it runs in the background of the system, which may interfere with Live Production. Check the box labelled, "Clean Installation" as well.  Click Next to complete the graphics card driver installation.

 9) The installation process will take some time to complete. Once completed, restart your TriCaster if prompted.

**Should you have issues with a new driver, you can repeat these steps to select and install a slightly older driver version to see if that resolves the issues.
