When troubleshooting your NewTek Control Surface, it is important to know that apparent connection issues can sometimes actually be symptoms of all or part of the Control Surface failing to power on. As such, NewTek Customer Support may ask you to put your Control Surface into Self Test Mode, which is designed to verify whether or not any portion of the Control Surface is not receiving power. In general, when in Self Test Mode, every action on the Control Surface should produce a visible reaction: Pressing buttons, moving T-bars, turning or pressing knobs, and interacting with any other input should make something light up or change numerical values. If an action does not lead to a reaction, that may indicate that a part of the Control Surface is failing to receive power.
To enter and exit Self Test Mode, you will need to press a specific combination of buttons, which will vary depending on the model of Control Surface that you have. This article details the specific combination for each model.
When in Self Test Mode, you should interact with every button, knob, T-bar, wheel and joystick on the Control Surface in order to verify each input’s functionality. For a visual demonstration of what each Control Surface model’s Self Test should look like, please watch the appropriate video that are attached to this article. (You may not hear sound in some of the videos. If that is the case, please view the file in VLC Player which can be downloaded from this link: https://www.videolan.org/ and you should be good to go.)
